Summary of Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila | The Prodigal Catholic Blog

https://prodigalcatholic.com/2018/06/05/summary-of-interior-castle-by-st-teresa-of-avila/

Outside of the Castle Teresa describes lizard like creatures who sometimes manage to sneak into the first mansion, but they never get any further, and usually end up back outside. They are dangerous, however, for the person serious about their progression into the higher mansions. I have not read anything specific saying why Teresa chose reptiles for the first mansion, but a true incident of a lizard who evidently got into her habit through her sleeve and was pulled out and thrown off by a brother, may have inspired her, so to speak, to describe them as sneaky and dangerous. The person who is truly serious about graduating in these mansions, needs to disassociate from them.
